Jo Wins Silver at the British Masters Half Marathon Championships

The Paddock Wood Half Marathon, which took place on Sunday 9th March, is now in its 35th year. This is a very well organised race, mostly flat, so usually thought of as a “fast” course with PB potential. This is always a very popular event and continues to attract ever greater numbers - this year there were 2,345 finishers. Thankfully, the organisers had arranged for more WCs, which certainly helped!

This event had also been selected as this year’s British Masters Athletic Federation (“BMAF”) Half Marathon Championships.

The weather was wonderful, although perhaps a little too warm for a Spring half marathon, and this seemed to impact quite a few runners, including those at the “sharp end”, some of whom for various reasons couldn’t finish, perhaps struggling with the heat. It certainly felt very warm, and the risk of cramping and dehydration was very real.

As in the previous year, there was a small group of Stags representing the Club; Will Morris, Calvin Wu, Jo Kent, Rob Scott, Kelvin Koloko and Scott Fraser. All eyes were on Jo though as she challenged for the medals in the W55 category and she duly delivered, securing a Silver Medal in the BMAF Champs. Jo’s time was a fantastic 1.34.30.

Well done Jo!
