The Stags Hunt 5 Mile PBs at Vicky Park in the Chingford League
Saturday 4th February saw the sixth Chingford League race of the season at Victoria Park and once again there were many positives on the day with a number of Stags recording 5 mile PBs on the fast and flat tarmac of Victoria Park. It was two laps of a figure of 8 loop that could have been designed for speed and many of us will happily return next year in an attempt to improve our times. Our turnout was once again the envy of many other clubs. Thirty three Stags raced (17 women and 16 men); five made their season’s debut in the Chingford League including a welcome return to racing by new mum, Annabelle White. Huge congratulations to them all.
Our men were led home by Simon Brown who is having a magnificent Winter season. Only two weeks ago he excelled in the mountains and frozen mud of Epping Forest and now on the flat tarmac of Vicky Park he has done the same again, proving he is at home on all surfaces. Simon was closely followed home by Rajesh Patel who clearly prefers running here to the broken pavements of Barnet.
For the second year in a row our women were led home by Charlotte Michael with another great run and a big improvement on her previous PB. Charlotte was followed home by the fast improving Stephanie Harrison who also recorded a massive improvement to her PB at this location. The future is looking very bright for the women’s team.
There were great performances throughout the team and everybody left with a smile on their face which says it all. The bumper turnout of cakes helped!
It was a great day for us with the usual fantastic team spirit and the final race of the season, the Relays on 11th March, promises to be a great day out for the Stags. There are also ‘on the day’ cups to challenge for. Can’t wait!
