Hertfordshire and Middlesex Cross Country Championships
On Saturday 4th January at Trent Park our Club hosted the combined Hertfordshire and Middlesex Cross Country Championships which was a great honour and a testament to the high regard we are held in. Thanks to the hard work of Rob Scott and his many volunteers it proved to be a very successful event. Well done everyone!
Not only does our Club have an active and committed group of organisers and volunteers which are the envy of many other clubs we have a great group of competitors too. Unfortunately given our location on the border of Hertfordshire and Middlesex our resources were divided between the two competitions which reduced our strength. Despite that we had full teams of women in both races and a full men’s team in the Herts contest and everyone gave it 100%.
The Herts men’s team was led home by Alex Horton, followed by Ed Spencer. James McCormick, Charlie White, Tom Thain and Will Morris made up the rest of the scoring team, who narrowly missed out on third place.
We were one man short for the Middlesex team but that didn’t stop those competing from giving it their all. The team was led home by Nehal Lavey-Khan, followed by Boon Wu, Will Cooper, Chun Ng and Gary Randle.
The scoring Herts women’s team was led home by Karen Murphy, followed by Jo Kent, Agnes Jacobs and Renata Pop.
The scoring Middlesex women’s team was led home by Jana Jilkova, followed by Kathryn Ellis, Chloe Marshall and Adrienn Fricska-Nagy.
For the first time in a couple of years it wasn’t raining nonstop, but it was a cold day although not too cold as there was no wind. The course was muddy and slippery and very tough but that didn’t stop our men and women who ALL proved themselves a credit to the Club.
Huge congratulations are due to everyone who ran, marshalled or helped at this wonderful and hugely successful event!
